Disney gives fan a first look at the upcoming animated feature Encanto

The countdown is on to Disney‘s next big blockbuster! The studio dropped the first trailer for Encanto, and you’re going to be absolutely enchanted.

“Welcome to Casa Madrigal, where all are exceptional, fantastical, magical…except Mirabel,” flashes across the screen over a Latin beat. Mirabel — whose adorable green eyeglasses and mop of dark curly hair will surely be featured on the dolls and action figures that will likely end up on every kid’s wishlist this holiday season — is voiced by Stephanie Beatriz of Brooklyn 99 fame. If you want to hear some serious range, check out Beatriz’s gruff and tough cop voice on the show compared to Mirabel’s teen girl voice — would you have guessed it was the same actor?

Mirabel is the only member of her family who doesn’t have magical powers. “Gift or no gift, I am just as special as the rest of my family,” she declares in the trailer, to which another character hilariously replies, “Maybe your gift is being in denial.” I think we can safely predict that this movie is going to focus on how Mirabel finds out what her gift is, whether it’s magical or not in the end.

Encanto’s music is by Lin-Manual Miranda, and as someone who is still regularly rocking out to the Moana soundtrack w̶h̶e̶n̶ ̶I̶’̶m̶ ̶a̶l̶o̶n̶e̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶m̶y̶ ̶c̶a̶r̶ with my kids, I am so incredibly pumped about that. Miranda tweeted that it’s the voice of famed Colombian singer Carlos Vives we hear in the track that accompanies the trailer, which is super fitting since the movie is set in Colombia.

Fans on Twitter were busy rejoicing over the new trailer, and eagerly awaiting a chance to see the rest of the film — and get to know the rest of the characters.

Many fans also celebrated that it’s another win for diversity — after Disney spent so many years making movies about princesses that basically all looked the same.

Encanto is set to be released on November 24th, so fans will still have a few more months to wait before they can satisfy their curiosity. But judging from the Day 1 reaction — it looks like Disney just might have another mega-hit on its hands.
