The Hottest Looks From The Emmys 2021 Red Carpet
Fashion made a comeback at the 2021 Emmys
Many of us spent the bulk of 2020 in our pajamas thanks to COVID shutdowns, lockdowns, and quarantines, and celebrities were no different. Lots of stars who attended award shows in 2020 did so virtually, majorly dressed down — we’re talking jammies, T-shirts and probably a few pairs of leggings. But celebs took it up for a notch for 2021, hitting the Emmy red carpet in some bold looks (all accessorized by the COVID vaccine, a requirement to attend in person this year).
From incredible gowns to amazing power suits, stars certainly made a statement this year.
The Handmaid’s Tale’s O-T Fagbenle was one of the night’s early arrivals — giving us all the more time to admire the incredible red and black look the actor described as “semi-traditional.” The half-Nigerian Fagbenle earned his first Emmy nod this year, for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
Is it even a red carpet if Billy Porter doesn’t show up to slay it? The Pose star turned heads in a dramatic all-black ensemble with massive puff sleeves that made Porter look like he had wings. Porter was also dripping in jewels, including a sparkling ear cuff.
If there’s anyone in Hollywood that gives Porter a run for the money in the “shuts down every red carpet they’ve ever set foot on” department, it’s gotta be Angela Bassett. This woman never looks anything but flawless, including in this black gown with a dramatic hot pink ruffle running across her chest and down her body.
Gillian Anderson donned a mid-riff bearing white gown on the red carpet. Just like Bassett, the Sex Education and The Crown star doesn’t seem to age — ever.
Elizabeth Olsen’s Emmy night look was a family affair. The Wandavision star positively glowed in a white gown designed by her famous sisters’ fashion line, The Row by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
Olsen’s onscreen nemesis Kathryn Hahn looked incredibly chic in a jumpsuit. She topped the all-black look off with a belt with an over-sized buckle — like really over-sized — and somehow manages to pull it off spectacularly. A rope of emeralds around her neck completed the look.
Jason Sudeikis stepped it up several notches for the Emmys. The Ted Lasso star looked incredibly dapper in a green velvet tux — a far cry from his 2021 Golden Globes look, the tie-dyed sweatshirt seen ’round the world. His hit comedy scored 20 nominations on the night.
You’d think Mandy Moore’s stylist would be her MVP for the night for putting her in this gorgeous red gown, but nope. The This Is Us star gave that title to her breast pump, which she posted a shot of on her Insta stories. Moore is pumping for baby boy August, born back in February,
Red was the color of the night at the Emmys. Tracee Ellis Ross also looked amazing in a flowing red gown. The off-the-shoulder number by Valentino shimmered with sequins, which Ross paired with gem-encrusted rings and bracelets.
Catherine O’Hara also donned red, but the Schitt’s Creek star didn’t go with the typical dress. Her fabulous jumpsuit featured a flowing train. O’Hara won big at last year’s show, taking home a statue for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy series. This year, she’s a fabulously dressed spectator.
So is Dan Levy, who’s been on something of a red carpet tear lately. He followed up his wild Met Gala look with an eye-catching blue suit by Valentino.
Bowen Yang may have looked like all the other dudes in traditional tuxes — if you only happened to see him from the ankles up. The Saturday Night Live star paired his suit with amazing silver platforms, which just be the coolest accessory of the evening.
