How do you know if you’re wiping your vulva correctly? When cleaning and wiping your vagina and vulva, there is a right way and a wrong way. Your vagina is its own filtering system, so do not put anything inside your vagina to clean it.
Always wipe from front to back to keep the bad bacteria from the backdoor from getting into the front. Although vaginal wipes are fine to use, make sure to stay away from anything scented and only wipe on the outside. When choosing toilet paper, higher plies may feel better and softer, but can lead to residue and an increased chance of getting bad bacteria in your vag. Consider patting your vag dry instead of wiping.
Do not use feminine deodorant sprays. These sprays may irritate your vulva and vagina, especially if they’re scented. And stay away from douching! No matter if your mom or your grandma did it. Remember, your vag is a self-cleaning oven!
