The first “Gossip Girl” trailer is here and features a familiar voice

Hey, Gossip Girl fans, rumor has it the trailer for the highly anticipated reboot just dropped — and, as you might’ve expected, it features a very familiar voice. That’s right, the first Gossip Girl reboot trailer is finally here, and believe us when we say they’ve hardly skimped on the glitz, the glamour, and the teasing of salacious secrets and scandals. And it’s all narrated by none other than the original voice of the hit CW teen drama series, Kristen Bell.

“Secrets, secrets are no fun… unless they come from Gossip Girl. She’s back and badder than ever,” the trailer description states. “See you on the steps.”

“You’ve gotten so comfortable, thinking you’re in control, of your image, your actions, the narrative, that you forgot one thing: I can see you. And before I’m through, I’ll make sure that you see you, too. XOXO,” Bell narrates as viewers are introduced to the new Gossip Girl cast, comprised of Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak, and Savannah Lee Smith.

“Kristen Bell has always been and will always be the voice of Gossip Girl,” the show’s producers, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, said in a statement. According to reports, Bell was in negotiations for months prior to joining the series.

The Gen Z Gossip Girl was announced two summers ago, with news of Bell reprising her role as the narrator following just a few months later.

Developed, executive produced, and written by showrunner Joshua Safran, who was a writer and executive producer on the original series, which ran from 2007 to 2012, the reboot picks up nine years later and will introduce viewers to a slew of new characters, like Julien Calloway, a teen influencer, played by Alexander; Audrey Hope played by Lind, who appeared in Revenge and Code Black; Zoya Lott, the Dan Humphrey of the group, played by Chilling Adventures of Sabrina‘s Peak; and Otto “Obie” Bergmann IV, a “rich do-gooder and German import,” played by Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists‘ Brown; among others.

“Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl,” the official summary states. “The prestige series will address just how much social media — and the landscape of New York itself — has changed in the intervening years.”

“It’s just a new look at this particular society in New York, the idea being that society changes constantly,” Safran told The Hollywood Reporter. “So how has this world changed, how has social media and its effect changed? All of those things allow us to look at the world 12 years on as opposed to just redoing the story.”

The reboot is bound to boast iconic fashion moments, too, thanks to original costume designer, Eric Daman, rejoining the series.

The Gossip Girl reboot debuts on July 8 on HBO Max.
