Yeast Infections and Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) are common yet different vaginal infections. In determining whether you have a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis, the proof is in the discharge. Madge the Vag is itching and burning to sit down with gynecologist Dr. Angela Jones to find out the difference between yeast infections and Bacterial Vaginosis.

Yeast Infections:

Yeast Infection symptoms are itching, burning, irritation, and discharge. Yeast Infections are caused by a shift in bacteria that normally live in the vagina. Too much of the bad bacteria overtake the good bacteria and now you have a yeast infection or a really good SuperHero movie. Antibiotics is one thing that can cause the imbalance. Avoid wearing tight clothing, using unscented or perfumed vaginal products, or keeping wet clothing on. Always wear highly absorbent underpants and pants, particularly when working out. You can try eating yogurt or taking probiotics.

Bacterial Vaginosis:

Bacterial Vaginosis is a bacterial infection that is known for its yellow discharge and fishy odor. Avoid smoking, which can lead to an increased risk of BV. Having sex with multiple partners can also increase your risk.

Treatment for Yeast Infections and BV:

The treatments are different, so please consult your doctor if you think you have either one of these infections.
