“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” airs twice this month

Guess what, y’all? It’s that time of year — the it’s-almost-Halloween airing of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Better get the kids in their PJs, make some popcorn, and settle in for some solid childhood nostalgia. The best news? This year, you get two chances to see it.

Apple picking? Check. Fall foliage-peeping? Did it. Twice. Pumpkin picking? And carving? All done. That means there’s only one fall ritual left before Halloween season is over and the holiday season begins (although for some of us, it already has.)

Yup. Time for the yearly re-watching of Charlie Brown, Linus, and their pals as they await the arrival of the Great Pumpkin.

The classic Halloween special dates back to 1966 and still manages to feel timely and entertaining in 2019, which, how? Whatever, not going to question it. We just know we’re possibly more excited than our kids to plop down on the couch and partake in this yearly cartoon tradition. After all, we need to know if Linus’ chosen pumpkin patch is the most sincere.

Sure, you could stream it pretty much whenever, but isn’t part of the wonder of these yearly holiday specials that exciting rush when your mom yells IT’S ON and you have to quick-style pull your Pizza Rolls from the toaster oven and hightail it to the living room? That’s why it’s fun to watch it when it airs, along with so many other nostalgic adults (and their kids). Showtime’s October 22nd at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and again October 27th at 7 p.m. The rerun on the 27th will be followed by another Peanuts episode, You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown, at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Happy Halloween!
