Joe Biden and wife Jill have both tested negative in the wake of President Trump’s news that he has COVID-19

Earlier today, news broke that President Donald Trump had tested positive for COVID-19 along with First Lady Melania Trump. Concern immediately began to circulate for Vice President Joe Biden, the Democratic candidate for president, as he spent Tuesday night debating the president and was in relatively close proximity of him. Now, the Biden campaign has announced that the former VP has tested negative for the virus along with wife Jill Biden.

The candidate and his wife were tested out of caution once Trump announced his own COVID status. His own doctor released a statement confirming the results. “Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden underwent PCR testing for COVID-19 today and COVID-19 was not detected. I am reporting this out in my capacity as both Vice President Biden and Dr. Biden’s primary care physician,” said Dr. Kevin O’Connor.

“I’m happy to report that Jill and I have tested negative for COVID,” Biden said in a tweet. “Thank you to everyone for your messages of concern. I hope this serves as a reminder: wear a mask, keep social distance, and wash your hands.”

Trump and the First Lady both took to Twitter this morning to confirm their test results.

Biden was quick to send his best wishes to the couple for “a swift recovery.”

Trump tested positive after news broke that close aide Hope Hicks, who traveled with the president on Air Force One to a rally in Minnesota on Wednesday, had tested positive for the virus. Trump was tested and announced his status in the early morning hours on Friday. He attended a fundraiser at his club in Bedminster, NJ Thursday night where an attendee estimates he came into contact with around 100 people. That attendee notes that he “seemed lethargic.”

Now, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows reports that the president is experiencing mild symptoms.

At Tuesday night’s debate, the president mocked Biden for the caution he’s taken throughout the pandemic. “I don’t wear face masks like him,” Trump said of Biden. “Every time you see him he’s got a mask. He could be speaking 200 feet away … and he shows up with the biggest mask I’ve ever seen.”

CNBC reports that Biden’s running mate, Senator Kamala Harris, tested negative for the virus yesterday and again this morning. Vice President Pence and his wife have both tested negative for the virus as well.
