John Legend thanked fans for their good wishes and prayers following the loss of the couple’s son Jack in a heartfelt Instagram post

John Legend is sharing his love and admiration for Chrissy Teigen on Instagram, the singer’s first public message following the loss of their baby a little over two weeks ago. He posted a video of himself performing the song he dedicated to her at the Billboard Music Awards, and included a lengthy caption beautifully honoring his partner and the mother of his children.

Echoing what he said before singing “Never Break” at the awards show, he wrote: “This is for Chrissy. I love and cherish you and our family so much. We’ve experienced the highest highs and lowest lows together. Watching you carry our children has been so moving and humbling. I’m in awe of the strength you’ve shown through the most challenging moments.”

He mentioned what a “gift” it is to be able to have children. “We’ve experienced the miracle, the power and joy of this gift, and now we’ve deeply felt its inherent fragility,” he said.

The song “Never Break,” which Legend wrote last year, was penned with Chrissy in mind long before their recent heartbreak. “I have faith that as long as we walk this earth, we will hold each other’s hands through every tear, through every up and down, through every test,” he continued. “We promised each other this on our wedding day seven years ago, and every challenge we’ve faced has made that promise more powerful, more resilient. Our love will remain. We will never break.”

The couple, parents to Luna, 4, and Miles, 2, announced they were expecting their third baby over the summer as part of his music video for his single, “Wild.” Not long after, Chrissy shared news of pregnancy complications, explaining that she had a weak placenta this time around and was experiencing abnormal bleeding. She was placed on bed rest for a few weeks and was eventually hospitalized. On Sept. 30, she shared with fans the profoundly sad news of their family’s loss.

Almost immediately, the couple’s grief was shared by thousands of people around the world who opened up about their own tragic experiences with pregnancy loss and stillbirth. Many families thanked them for being so candid about their loss and not suffering in silence.

“Thank you to everyone who has been sending us prayers and well wishes, flowers, cards, words of comfort and empathy,” Legend concluded. “We feel and appreciate your love and support more than you know. More than anything, we’ve heard so many stories about how so many other families have experienced this pain, often suffering in silence. It’s a club no one wants to be a part of, but it’s comforting to know we’re not alone. I’m sure Chrissy will have much more to say about this when she’s ready. But just know we’re grateful and we’re sending love to all of you and your families.”
