Molly McNearney and Jimmy Kimmel inspire NICU parents on Twitter

Since the birth of his son Billy earlier this year, Jimmy Kimmel and his wife, Molly McNearney, have been extremely vocal on the importance of affordable healthcare coverage. Billy was born with a congenital heart disease, and has already undergone major surgery in his young life, with more ahead of him. Which means hundreds of thousands of dollars, insurance deductibles, and lifetime caps.

His son’s health has inspired Kimmel and McNearney to fight to uphold the Affordable Care Act, for fellow NICU parents who can’t afford the care their children need like they can.

Of course, people have criticized Kimmel and his wife for being open about their politics and using Kimmel’s show as a public policy platform. They’ve even been scolded to “stay in their lane.” Major eyeroll, we know.

To that, McNearney responded:

Spoken like a mom, that’s for sure. And not just any mom, a mom who has had some of her worst fears realized in a NICU hospital room. Other NICU parents quickly joined in, sharing their stories and their frustrations. Because no one knows the importance of affordable healthcare like they do.

After Senator John McCain recently said he “cannot in good conscience” vote for the Republican health bill that would leave millions of individuals, families, and babies like Billy with pre-existing conditions without healthcare, McNearney took to Twitter once again.

Looks like the Kimmel clan isn’t planning on backing down from this fight anytime soon.
