Mom Shares Ultrasound Photo Of 'Angel' Watching Over Her Baby

A mother shared an ultrasound photo where it looks like there’s an angel watching over her unborn baby.

Ultrasound photos are the new ink blot tests. There are so many weird little shadows hovering around in them that a person is almost certain to see something floating around in there besides a fetus. Earlier this week an ultrasound started to go viral around the Internet because it totally looked like there was a demon hanging out in the womb next to the fetus. Now another mother has shared her own ultrasound as an antidote, because her ultrasound looks like it has an angel in it.

According to Today, Kelly Lewis from Wales shared the ultrasound photo of her daughter, Harper, to “balance the scales” a little bit and counter the demon ultrasound photo. In her image, it looks like there’s an angel in the uterus, just gently watching over the fetus and looking all beatific.

Lewis’ ultrasound is from 2012, and she says that at first, she did not see the angel in the picture. Once one of her friends pointed it out, however, she said everyone could see it and agreed that it looked like an angel.

Harper is now a happy, healthy, three-year-old girl, and her mother describes her as being positively angelic.

“Harper is a very well-behaved little girl,” Lewis said. “She has a warmhearted, caring, and helpful personality — always polite and kind, and very sweet and innocent. She also has the sweetest smile — it’s very angelic. I am truly blessed to have her.”

Looking at an ultrasound is a bit like seeing shapes in clouds, though. One person’s smiling cherub is another person’s tiny brontosaurus, or Snoopy with a butter knife. Personally, I kind of see a horsie, but only if I tilt my head to the right and squint a little bit.

Spotting things in ultrasounds will never get boring, though, thanks to a weird but cool human tendency called “pareidolia,” which means that we perceive patterns where none really exist. That’s why we see things like the face of Jesus in toast and find potatoes that look like George Washington.

The “angel” hovering in the womb with Harper is most likely just Harper’s little knee and hand turning up in a blurry ultrasound photograph and making people see angels, but her mother says she likes to imagine that it was a real angel watching over her baby girl.

“Yes, I’d like to believe that this is an angel,” said Lewis “It’s a nice thing to believe and a lovely thing to have.”

Having a healthy and happy baby is always a blessing, regardless of whether or not the angel in the uterus with her is an optical illusion.
