82,000 donations have been made to Planned Parenthood in Mike Pence’s name

It’s a scary time for women, women’s rights, and by default — Planned Parenthood. The new administration has made no secret that they are anti-choice, and as is the case with most anti-choice groups, has taken aim at Planned Parenthood. Why? Because anti-choicers don’t like facts, that’s why. No matter how many times PP repeats that only three percent of their services yearly are abortions, some still feel an innate need to mess with their funding.

Since the election of Donald Trump, 315,000 donations have been made to Planned Parenthood. 82,000 of those were made in the name of Indiana governor and now Vice-President elect Mike Pence.

We’ve been so busy focusing on the rabid tweets of a reality show host turned president that we may have failed to see just how dangerous the people he’s surrounding himself with are. Mike Pence is one of the most scary anti-choicers around. Put plainly, he’s an enemy to women’s rights. Full stop. Here are some of the few things he’s done to meddle in our collective vaginas.

He authored the first bill to block Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funding in 2011. He said, “the time has come to deny any federal funding to Planned Parenthood.”

He doesn’t understand the definition of rape. Ever heard of “The Hyde Amendment?” It prevents some federally funded health-care programs from covering abortions, except in the cases of rape and incest, and when the life of the woman is threatened. Pence didn’t think this was restrictive enough. He supported a bill that proposed changing the language in the Hyde Amendment from “rape” to “forcible rape.” As if there is a difference? There goes all of our “NO means NO” outreach. A bunch of old white men should definitely be allowed to decide when rape is actually rape, right?

In 2014 he signed into law a bill that banned private insurance coverage of abortion unless the pregnancy was the result of rape or incest or threatened the life of the mother. There were no exceptions for fetal anomalies.

And just this year Pence signed a bill that would force all women seeking abortion to have an ultrasound 18 hours before the procedure. Oh, and it will also force women to BURY OR CREMATE the aborted tissue.

Because of all of this, he’s proven the perfect candidate for spite-donations: 82,000 donations to Planned Parenthood in his name. Not saying all of these fine people who donated to support health care access for women wouldn’t have donated anyway — they would have. But it’s pretty satisfying to donate in his name, isn’t it?

According to data collected by New York magazine, “26 percent of the donations Planned Parenthood has received since the election have come from ‘Mike Pence.’ At least he’s finally doing something right for women — even if it’s totally against his will.
