Sister Who's Been Through Labor Shares Delivery Room Selfie
Woman hilariously snaps selfie of her sister during labor
Most delivery room photos show the new mom relaxed and relieved, gazing lovingly at her new bundle of joy. But a woman in Texas decided to document a different side of her sister’s birthing experience: the sheer agony.
In what can only be described as peak sibling, Kat Armendariz snapped a selfie with her little sister giving birth in the background. She’s smiling as her sister is literally writhing in pain. The epic sister selfie is up on Imgur with the caption, “SELFIE! While my sister is about to shove a baby out her vag!”
Her little sister Kimberly Ramirez was giving birth to a baby boy in El Paso, Texas over the weekend, and apparently Armendariz was there to document the whole damn thing. Armendariz is eight years older than her sister and her smirk says it all: been there, done that, honey.
“I have 5 [children], so the reason for the selfie is that it’s finally her turn because I did my time,” she told HuffPost.
Big sisters do end up doing a lot of things first, including child birth (and yes, we’re allowed to gloat a bit when it’s our little sister’s turn). Lest you think Armendariz has forgotten what those labor pains feel like, not so fast. She just gave birth four months ago.
“My tubes are BURNED/CUT/TIED… no never again lol,” she said. It’s safe to say the memory is very fresh.
And there’s no need to hate on the big sis for snapping a selfie of her sister at what is arguably one of the most vulnerable moments in her life. Everyone thinks it’s funny, even her little sis.
“She wasn’t in too much pain at first, so she thought it was pretty funny,” Armendariz told Mashable. “I told her I was going to do it, she just started the oxytocin and the labor pains began almost instantly. She started to feel it and right when she was like, ‘Oh my God, I can’t take this,’ I took the photo.”
Big sis did receive a little flack on social media with commenters hinting that she was insensitive towards the new mom.
“She’s gonna hate you for this later.”
“If someone took my picture while I was in labor, I would make a point of keeping my placenta just so I could throw it at them.”
“You know the rules…. no selfies.”
But mostly they were funny and supportive.
“I can’t imagine the pain of squeezing a human out of such a small opening. Please let her know the internet is pulling for her.”
“Just in case you didn’t know: your sister hates your guts! Congrats on becoming an aunt.”
“Lmao best selfie I’ve seen in a while. Frame this and give it to her next Mother’s Day.”
Seriously, she is a great big sister and already a wonderful aunt. Ramirez is currently staying with her sister in El Paso and said she is helping out with nighttime feedings and holding her new nephew, Zayden. She joked to HuffPost that she might do another embarrassing selfie, like when the baby spits up on his mom for the first time.
