Elliot Page and his wife are getting a divorce after three years of marriage

Oscar-nominated actor Elliot Page and his wife, dancer Emma Portner, have shared the news that they’re divorcing after three years of marriage.

In a joint statement to The Hollywood Reporter, the pair said, “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer. We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends.”

The former couple married in early 2018 with Page taking to Instagram to share the news on January 3 of that year.

Last month, Page shared an emotional note on his account to tell the world he is trans. “Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life,” he wrote at the time.

He later posted his gratitude for all the “love and support” he’s received since coming out.

For her part, Portner shared a supportive message on her own account. “I am so proud of Elliot Page,” she wrote. “Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world. I also ask for patience & privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much.”
