JoJo Siwa Reveals She Has A Girlfriend Who Encouraged Her To Come Out
JoJo Siwa told the story of how she decided to publicly come out, and just casually dropped news that she has a girlfriend
JoJo Siwa is killing it right now. The dancer-turned-influencer is one of the biggest social media stars of our age, with all kinds of product deals and a still-growing audience. And over the last few weeks, she’s revealed publicly that she’s a part of the LGBTQ+ community, to a largely overwhelmingly positive response from her fans.
Last night, Siwa visited the Tonight Show, where she opened up a little bit more about how she’s shared this part of herself over the last few weeks.
“It was the most insane thing ever,” she said. “I mean literally everyone and their brother messaged me, called me, texted me, sent me an Instagram message, tweeted me — it was the most love I think I’ve ever received. And the coolest thing about it was it was just by me showing the world the last little piece of me that they haven’t seen. It was really awesome.”
Siwa explained that she was filming Tik Toks with other influencers from the Pride House when she realized one of the videos she filmed might out her. She said she thought about the possibility of posting the video, and with some encouragement from a special someone, decided to go ahead with coming out.
“I don’t mind,” Siwa said. “I do have the most amazing, wonderful, perfect, most beautiful girlfriend in the whole world. It’s not something I’m ashamed of. It’s just something I haven’t shown the internet yet.”
That’s right. Siwa just casually dropped news that she has a girlfriend. Just like that.
Siwa first started a media frenzy when she posted a video of herself lip syncing to “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga.
After she posted that video, she explained, is when her girlfriend encouraged her to confirm all the rumors and come out officially.
“One day I was on FaceTime with my girlfriend — this was the day after I had posted the ‘Born This Way’ TikTok — I was on FaceTime with her, talking about it, talking about all the love that came in, and we both were like, technically I still hadn’t confirmed it… She was super encouraging. She was like, ‘Do it!’ Siwa said.
The rest is history. Siwa posted a photo of herself in a now-iconic T-shirt, and has since said she’s happier than ever.
For the kids who follow her who might also be thinking about their sexuality, Siwa had this advice.
“My thing with ‘coming out’ is it can be a very scary thing. Of course not everybody in the world is going to accept it right now. But there are so many people that are going to accept it right now. I say, even if there’s a million people — that’s a lot of people that don’t accept it. But there’s 100 million that do. And I think that’s something that’s really important. Always keep that in mind.”
