Passengers erupted in cheers when the plane lit up pink

In case you hadn’t heard, there’s some pretty big stuff happening in Washington, D.C. this weekend.

And we don’t mean the inaugural activities.

Millions of women all over the country are marching in protest of the incoming administration and the non-women-friendly policies they’re seeking to implement. The Women’s March on Washington is going to be the biggest demonstration of all, and to that end, a Southwest Airlines flight decided to give a nod to the cause by lighting up a plane headed to the D.C. area bright pink.

Southewest passenger Krystal Parrish shared the photo with the caption, “When your Southwest flight crew celebrate a plane full of kicka– women and men going to the Women’s March by lighting it up!! #lit #womensmarchonwashington #lovetrumpshate.” Her flight was from Chicago to BWI, and she tells Refinery29, “I didn’t hear them say anything, but when they [turned on the lights] the whole plane recognized their intention and everyone started clapping.”

The airline confirmed in a statement that this was not a company-wide initiative, so it looks like we have some kick-ass flight attendants to thank for the gesture. “Some of our aircraft are equipped with mood lighting and while this was not a company-wide initiative, at times, our flight crews will adjust the lighting for a customer or group of customers traveling on their flight.”

Parrish wasn’t the only march attendee to notice, with other passengers sharing photos on social media.

The website dedicated to the Women’s March says, “The Women’s March on Washington will send a bold message to our new government on their first day in office, and to the world that women’s rights are human rights. We stand together, recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.”

Judging by the dearth of bus permits for the inauguration and the overwhelming number dedicated to the Women’s March, that message will be beyond bold. Kudos to Southwest for throwing their support behind this monumental cause. We need all the love we can get.
