The evening of bewitchment approaches! And, yes, that’s holiday-nerd speak for Halloween is almost here. Of course, if you understood, you’re obviously a holiday-nerd, too and we all know that Halloween is the best holiday of all. So, you’re going to want to celebrate with your people, whether it’s friends, family, coworkers, kids, or some combination, right? That means you need ideas for some epic group Halloween costumes.

It goes without saying that you’ll probably have to keep your group shenanigans smaller this year than most. Due to the pandemic, some areas still have protections in place prohibiting very large gatherings. Plus, a lot of traditional Halloween festivities are canceled. But you know what? Halloween isn’t! You can still have your holiday-nerd fun… just, on a slightly less exaggerated scale.

Whether you’re looking for costumes of three, four, five, or even for the gaggle of kids in your social circle or pod, we’ve got you covered. These group Halloween costumes are sure to slay.

1. The 2020 Disaster Board

Is it any wonder this Cabin in the Woods meme keeps making the rounds in 2020? Each month seems to bring a new disaster. So, make a costume out of it! One person in your group can go as Richard Jenkins’ Sitterson, while another goes as the actual blackboard. Everyone else can choose 2020-esque catastrophes (think flying snakes) or original monsters from the movie’s board.

2. Taylor Swift’s Folklore Album

One of the biggest pop culture moments of 2020 came when Taylor Swift unexpectedly dropped a new album, Folklore. And, oh, how it lends itself to a group Halloween costume! Each person can pick a different song to represent. For example, whoever chooses “Cardigan” can borrow Swift’s cozy style from the music video. “Mirrorball,” well, that’s easy enough. And so on, and so forth.

3. The Roses

The final season of Emmy-award winning Schitt’s Creek hits Netflix in October! To celebrate, get your group together for the ultimate Rose family gathering. And if you have more people in your party than Johnny, Moira, David, and Alexis, you can always expand to include the town’s other colorful characters. Like, Stevie someone definitely needs to be Stevie.

4. Space Invaders

Honestly, if this year gets any weirder, we fully expect space invaders to make an appearance. So, why not go ahead and get people used to the idea with these otherworldly ensembles?

5. The Mandalorian

You had to know Baby Yoda would make the list. Well, we wouldn’t want to disappoint. With The Mandalorian’s second season on the way, this is bound to be a popular group Halloween costume choice this year.

6. AHS: Coven

If you’re still waiting for American Horror Story to introduce anything better than Coven, join the club. But also, recreate the spectacular installment on your own with your best witches.

7. M&Ms

This costume idea might seem basic, but therein lies its brilliance. It is cute, easily recognizable, can be adapted for any size group, and works well for any age group. You might say it’s, ahem, sweet.

8. The Insurance Mascots

With the way this year is going, we’re interested in all the insurance which is why this idea makes us laugh out loud! If you’re looking for Halloween costumes for a group of five, look no further than the insurance mascots: The General, Mayhem, Flo, Caveman, and Snoopy.

9. Beyonce’s Black Is King

Beyonce’s Black Is King visual album couldn’t be more stunning if it tried. Or, for that matter, a bigger pop culture moment. Our favorite look from the lot? Her leopard-print leotard, which she paired with massive sparkly sunglasses. The rest of your group should also wear leopard-print suits.

1o. The Pogues

Although the pandemic definitely slowed down the release of new shows, Netflix did drop Outer Banks. Spoiler alert: It was a runaway hit, thanks in large part to its lovable misfits known as the Pogues. The show’s costume designer Emmie Holmes has given several interviews about how to capture the OBX style, making this a no-brainer. And if you’ve got a big group, you could always expand to include the preppy Kooks.

11. Circus Troupe

Going as a circus troupe leaves tons of room for creativity. If you go classic, you have your ringmaster, the trapeze artists, a lion tamer and, of course, the animals. Or you could go circus freak style and go wild with characters like “The World’s Tallest Man” or “The Two-Faced Woman.” And as this photo goes to show, a circus troupe group costume is a great way to incorporate a wagon or stroller for young children.

12. Ferris Bueller and Friends

Fans are convinced Tom Holland is working on a reboot of the 1986 cult classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Get your group together and try to manifest that into reality! The costumes are pretty easy to pull together as long as you can get your hands on ‘80s swag.

13. Jurassic World-Inspired

We don’t know about you, but we’re counting down the days until Jurassic World: Dominion hits theaters next summer. How excited are you that Jurassic Park OGs Laura Dern and Sam Neill are joining the cast?! That makes this the ideal year for channeling Dr. Ellie Sattler and Dr. Alan Grant, along with Owen, Claire, and more.

14. The “WAP” Music Video

Dare you? There’s definitely no shortage of options if you and your crew opt for this idea. Whether you’re channeling Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s pink and yellow princess-style looks or modeling Kylie Jenner’s leopard print, you’ll be serving lewks.

15. Bohemian Rhapsody, Rebooted

Whether you need a costume for your family or for your circle of friends, you’ll feel like a bunch of rockstars when you go as Steven Tyler, Freddie Mercury, and Sir Elton John. It’s like Bohemian Rhapsody reimagined.

16. The Average Joes vs. the Purple Cobras

Nobody makes you bleed your own blood! You couldn’t ask for a more adaptable costume. Just think of how many friends can get on the fun — you could always add in Steve the Pirate, Patches O’Houlihan, Me’Shell Jones, Pepper and Cotton… the list goes on.

17. Dunder Mifflin’s Best Employees

Want to find out who your people are? Go as the cast of The Office. Fellow fans will flock to you like flies to sticky paper.

18. The Golden Girls

Sing it with us: “Thank you for being a friend, traveled down the road and back again, your heart is true, you’re a pal and a confidant!” There’s literally no age-range this won’t work for. The biggest problem you’ll have is trying to decide who gets to be Sophia, Dorothy, Blanche, and Rose in your friend group.
